It’s just not MY virtue. I wish I had more patience. It would make this adventure in remote building much less stressful. I guess, in the scheme of things, I’m managing better than anticipated…mostly because I have a calm husband and an awesome builder who keeps us apprised of progress.
It’s been awhile since I’ve updated the blog. I have to say, it’s hard to get excited about the “guts” of the house. Wiring, insulation, plumbing…ALL VERY IMPORTANT…do not scream “look at me, I’m aesthetically pleasing!!” But, things are moving along and soon, we’ll be on the home stretch.
Winter and spring were slow-going. It was a harsh winter in the Northwoods – very cold and lots of snow. Spring came…and then 22” of snow fell in late April. This delayed the county lifting weight restrictions on the roads – hard to get a load of sheetrock to the site when there are late spring weight restrictions! At the end of the day, it worked in our favor because we saw the house prior to insulation which allowed for some important changes to some electrical locations.
THE APRIL SNOW
We visited in late July and things were starting to fall in place. The exterior was taking shape. Metal roofing and siding, cedar trim to warm up the modern look of the siding, and very cool garage doors, in keeping with our modern take on our cabin in the woods. Additionally, the insulation was in and the drywall was going up. By the time we left, most of the interior was drywalled.
JULY PROGRESS

August has seen good progress. Drywall is now taped and bedded. Work has begun on our kitchen feature wall. We are using a porcelain tile which looks like reclaimed wood. Gutters have been added to the exterior and trees have been trimmed to optimize the beautiful view.
IT’S SHAPING UP – INSIDE AND OUT!

THE RECLAIMED WOOD LOOK

There is still a lot to do, but each new picture we receive shows progress on all fronts! We will soon see paint on the walls, cabinetry installed and landscaping work to address drainage. It’s all incredibly exciting and I hope we can spend a late fall weekend in the house…albeit on the floor in sleeping bags, but it’ll be “Home Sweet Home”!
